ARISE 3rd Annual Meeting: Uniting Experts in Vaccine Research
On November 21-22, 2024, the ARO Alliance for Southeast & East Asia (ARISE) convened its 3rd Annual Meeting at the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand–a pivotal moment for clinical-on-clinical researchers committed to pandemic preparedness across Asia.
A Collaborative Vision for Global Health
The two-day event brought together leading experts from various countries, transforming the Siriraj Medical Research (SiMR) Building into a hub of critical discussion and strategic planning. As its core, the meeting aimed to strengthen regional collaboration in vaccine trials, addressing the complex challenges of preparing for potential future pandemics.
Highlights of the First Gathering
Participants dove deep into crucial topics, including:
- Innovative strategies for conducting vaccine trials in the Asian context.
- Practical insights from existing and ongoing vaccine development efforts.
- Ethical considerations in clinical trials, ensuring trial success.
The meeting also provide the opportunity to create a memorable private dinner cruise along the Chao Phraya River, where participants and members of the ARISE network researchers connected over breathtaking views illuminated by the Vijit Chao Phraya Light and Sound Festival. All attendees also received unique Thai pants, symbolizing the rich cultural diversity of the region.
Key Moments of the Second Gathering
Two significant components featured:
- Mpox Vaccine Trial Workshop: A morning session focused on scenario-based case studies, allowing participants to explore complex trials challenges through interactive learning. Through group discussions and hands-on exercises, attendees gained critical insights into the nuanced challenges of transforming theoretical knowledge into practical expertise.
- Joint Symposium of NCGM, CCS, and DIT: An afternoon hybrid event brought together experts from the National Center for Global Health Medicine (NCGM), Center for Clinical Science (CCS), and Department of International Trials (DIT). This dynamic session united researchers to tackle strategies to enhance the efficiency of streamlining clinical trials across Asia.
Why It Matters
In a world still recovering from recent global health challenges, the ARISE network demonstrates the power of collaborative research. Bringing together experts, sharing knowledge, and developing strategies approaches, these researchers are building a more resilient future for pandemic response.
Looking Forward
Siriraj Institute of Clinical Research (SICRES) and the ARISE network remains committed to fostering regional partnerships and bridging clinical research gaps. For those who missed the event, the message is clear: collaborative, strategic approach is key to addressing Asia’s most pressing healthcare challenges.
